THE EXHIBITION

The power of words cannot be overstated. When these words are written and recorded, they carry even more weight. What then, can be the effect of combining written language with visual language? What this exhibition asks of the artist is - What happens at the intersection of the visual arts and the literal arts? Whether text is used in your artwork boldly, subtly, texturally, literally, or just as inspiration, what is the outcome of this combination of expressions?

Juror

Buzz Spector is an artist, writer, curator, and Professor of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Spector is an internationally known artist whose work makes frequent use of the book, both as subject and object, and is concerned with relationships between public history, individual memory, and perception. His work with altered found books dates back to 1981, and his collages incorporating dust jacket elements date from 1987. Spector has received much recognition for his art, including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Fellowship in 1991, and three NEA individual artist fellowships. He received the distinguished teaching of art award from the College Art Association in 2013.
